Panic

When you get on the wrong train and it looks as if you'll miss the plane, or when you mislay your wallet containing cash, driver's license and credit card and can't find it no matter where you search you become fearful, your heart beats faster and beads of sweat break out on your face.

When we are faced with an unexpected difficulty we often become uneasy, don't know which way to turn and get confused. We panic. When this happens, the more we panic the worse the situation becomes. We become unable to think clearly and unable to make decisions.

On the other hand, if we are able to stay focused and remain calm we are often able to find a way out of the problem. It seems though that, in most cases, it is difficult to stay calm.

At times like these, it is a great help to know that the Creator of this universe is with us to help us. Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt, away from their bondage and slavery. Unfortunately, they were pursued by the Pharaoh of Egypt and his army. In front of them was the Red Sea, mountain ranges on both sides and the Egyptian army coming up behind them. It must have seemed as though there were no way out.

However, Moses, who trusted in Almighty God, did not panic but just lifted up his staff and pointed it towards the sea. When he did that, the sea parted and the people of Israel were able to safely go across and were saved.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." Psalm 121:1-2
